We get calls every week from veterans asking whether we can “handle the VA side” of buying a wheelchair van. The honest answer: no dealer can, including us. Here’s how it actually works, so you don’t waste time or money doing it in the wrong order.
The Process Starts With the VA, Not a Dealer
Whether the VA will help with a vehicle or adaptive equipment is entirely the VA’s decision, based on your service record and disability rating. No dealer can tell you whether you qualify, speed up your claim, or promise anything on the VA’s behalf. Anyone who says otherwise is selling you something.
Your first stop is your VA office or a Veterans Service Officer (VSO). For the Lakeland and Central Florida area, that’s the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa and its outpatient clinics. They’ll tell you what you may be eligible for and what documentation you need.
What Happens After the VA Approves Something
Once your paperwork is approved, the VA contacts a dealer to fill the order — that’s the point where we come in. We take the approval, help you pick the van or equipment that fits it, and handle delivery and service like we would for any customer.
One thing worth repeating from every VA resource: don’t buy the vehicle or equipment first and expect reimbursement. Approval comes first, purchase second.
You Don’t Have to Wait on the VA to Talk to Us
Nothing about our pricing or service depends on the VA. You’re welcome to come try vans, ask questions, and get numbers at any point — before, during, or after your VA conversation. Call us at (863) 816-1513 or see our Information for Veterans page.
